When it comes to losing weight, the main key to lose weight overall is to go about a calorie deficit. That means that you must consume fewer calories than normal. So for example, if you're overweight, that'll be considered as a calorie surplus since you're gaining weight, so let's give an example of this situation; You're consuming approx ~4,000 calories (calorie surplus). Now, to promote weight loss, a calorie deficit is required. 

NOW, you're going to deduct about ~300-500 calories from your average calorie consumption which was ~4,000 calories. SO, now, the calorie goal is to consume approx 3,500-3,700 calories daily to go about a calorie deficit phase. This in return will help with losing weight and fat. Don't reduce your calorie intake dramatically because you'll crash your body and mind and this will make you sick and malnourished. We're wanting to lose weight the healthy way. This, going about a ~300-500 calorie deficit is all you need. Once you've plateaued, you can increase the deficit. Along with exercising, you'll burn excess weight and fat off, and it'll increase your muscular and tone up your body.

Anyhow, a calorie deficit is required to lose weight. Healthy foods such as vegetables, fruits, legumes, grains, etc are super healthy for us humans. They contain all of the nutrients we need to be properly nourished. A proper healthy functioning body will promote better performance, recovery, and strength. It'll also help with your weight. And it's much much harder to "be overweight" when it comes to eating healthy.
