Avoid Weightlifting / Gym Injuries - Don't Hurt Yourself TIPS - Tips for Getting stronger the Safe Way

Many people go to the gym and lift weights to build muscle and strength. But sometimes, people don't do it properly. When you go about improper weightlifting technique and/or form, you're susceptible to an injury because many many things could go wrong when doing things the improper way...

Form, technique, and control are all needed when it comes to lifting weights. You have much better power output and higher performance which will aid in better lifts, better workout sessions, and more Gains. However, people don't like to do it the proper way. Why? Not sure, perhaps they're tired, too lazy, lack knowledge, don't care about form, just trying to get the workout done or they know what they're doing but don't care about form/technique.

Common Workout Injuries

  • Muscle pull and strain.
  • Sprained ankle.
  • Shoulder injury.
  • Knee injuries.
  • Shin splint.
  • Tendinitis.
  • Wrist sprain or dislocation.

Now, if you're trying to rush a workout, trying to lift the weights just to get it done, and not focusing on the technique or form, you're vulnerable to an injury. You may strain yourself too much when doing things improper which will lead to an injury. Using your Ego is another example of improper lifting. Don't think you're a gorilla and can lift a car and end up hurting yourself; have proper control of the weights in order to efficiently train and develop muscle and strength. If you're swinging the weights around, that'll put more strain on your muscles than having full control of your muscles...

There is a lot to think about when it comes to training safely and effectively. You must always remember to do focus on form, technique and have a sense of full control of the weights and your muscles. You must know when to bail when to stop and from there, you're properly [bodybuilding].

People hurt themselves because they're too concerned about how much weight (lbs) they're lifting, so they may lift heav[ier] in order to look impressive...You should not Do that. Do not ever try to impress someone by lifting heav[ier] without full control. You're just asking for a muscle tear/injury.

In addition, your lifestyle outside the gym matters too. If you're too lean, you're vulnerable to injuries. If you aren't resting/sleeping/recovering enough or properly, you're vulnerable as well because your body needs sleep, it needs rest in order to recover properly. If you're interfering with your sleep/recovery, your performance and strength will be reduced. So, make sure you're getting plenty of rest and sleep on a daily basis. Good, Deep Sleep is required for a full recovery. At least 6+ hours or more is recommended. Anything more than 9 hours is excessively sleeping, In my opinion.

Let's also not forget that mobility is highly important as well. Tons of people neglect mobility because we never think about it. But if you think about it, mobility dictates a lot of our actions and essentially our [muscle] health. If you have a poor range of motion, that WILL lead to an injury because a poor range of motion limits your muscle state, muscle power, and muscle contractions, so, therefore, you cannot FULLY get a 100% effective workout in. Your contractions aren't as great compared to a healthy functioning muscle because tight muscles, restricted muscles have decreased blood flow which limits nourishment and power. By improving mobility, you will have an improved range of motion which will aid in developing of the muscles and strength. It'll also improve blood flow which improves nourishment and power output. And you're not vulnerable to injuries because your muscles are healthy and functioning properly. Just imagine trying to shoulder press or bench press with really bad shoulders with a horrible range of motion. What DO you think would happen? If their shoulders gave out during one of those exercises, most likely they'll end up tearing their shoulders or pecs due to the durability of their muscles.

To improve mobility, you need to start listening to your body and look at yourself. Examine yourself and address the issues. Begin to stretch; Stretching will allow the muscle to relax and lengthen which will improve mobility and range of motion, etc. Foam rolling can also be beneficial to relieve those knots and muscle tension. As well as Massages can help with blood flow, mobility, and tight muscles (and recovery). Don't ever neglect your body functionality. If you're wanting to stay strong, healthy, and powerful year-round for many many years, you must take care of yourself on a daily basis and address the issues that need to be fixed.

You don't want to experience any gym injuries. Start warming up, correct your technique and form, and lift weights the proper way. Don't use your ego, don't overdo a workout, and know what you're doing. The gym is to improve upon, not to hurt yourself.

Stay Strong, take care of your body and do what is right and proper.
